Recreating the “Take This to Your Grave” Album Cover
The day before the Wrigley Field show, we and our friends Ryan and Euan tracked down the actual Roscoe Village building where Fall Out Boy shot the cover of Take This to Your Grave back in 2003.
While we were out front taking a photo with the entrance, the building’s current resident came home, saw what was happening, and invited us all inside — the first fans he’d ever let in.
“That time I got to hang out in the #TakeThisToYourGrave apartment the day before the band played Wrigley Field. Good luck topping this one, 2019.”

Ortensia (and Later, Silver) Joined the Family
We spotted a frantic, misplaced kitten outside Crystal Blue in L5P just after midnight, and Kayla insisted on pulling the car over. She rushed straight into our arms like she already knew us. We named her Ortensia, after Oswald the Lucky Rabbit’s cat girlfriend. That summer she had a litter of her own, a difficult pregnancy that ended in an emergency hysterectomy, but she left us with one kitten: her son, Silver. The two of them instantly became our family.
“welcome to the family, baby ortensia. i honestly believe you were heaven sent.”

Five Years
“How has it been five years already? In many ways I did not start living until I observed your unwavering authenticity. I grew up internalizing the belief that my happiness was much less important than almost anything, but especially maintaining any tiny bit of peace that popped up around me. But just by being near and being yourself, you’ve somehow taught me more about joy, standing up for myself, and what we all deserve than I had ever even considered before. I experience life more deeply and beautifully because of your influence, and I am so excited to intentionally and wholeheartedly do the rest of this life with you. Thank you so much for helping me build a foundation of love and growth that makes it possible for us to build our future. I am so grateful for you and our family, and I love you so much. I hope we have our best year yet ahead of us. 💝 (Also look at us! We were babies!)”

“You unlock this door with the key of imagination, beyond it is another dimension. A dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You’ve just crossed over into… The Engagement Zone.”
